artist bio
I’m Aimee, born and raised in Mexico, I spent the rest of my childhood in Sacramento & Rancho Cordova, California. Ever since I was young, I’ve loved building or creating things. In high school, I took ceramics, and it became one of my favorite mediums because it meant I had to design/do the blueprint and then execute the plan by hand, building it. Another medium I liked that I started in high school was watercolor painting; painting layer by layer until the drawing looked complete, was my favorite process. Since I grew up in a technology world, my visual art teacher recommended that I try to do digital art, which I ended up loving, and it became my number one favorite medium.
Before doing any artwork, I love to search the history; what I mean is I love drawing events or cultural symbols. Searching up the history or significance makes me appreciate more what I’m drawing and enjoy the process more because I love learning about new things or cultures. It is a part of appreciating and enjoying the work, which makes me more knowledgeable and mindful of the world. Nevertheless, I didn’t consider a career path in the arts because I considered art more of a hobby, something to do in my free time. Thanks to an inspiring teacher who motivated me to go out of my comfort and try new mediums, I found a passion for the subject. Now, I am practicing all types of material combinations. Though my skills have yet to catch up to my imagination and creative ideas for art pieces, learning and seeing my mistakes is fun. Eventually, I realized that if I wanted to, I could make a career creating things, and once that was in my mind, it wouldn’t leave. I was convinced to study studio art because it explores all types of mediums, and as an artist, I want to try and become a pro at it. I’m a 3-D Thinker, which helps me develop and practice skills in problem-solving and cultivates my aesthetic sensitivity and visual awareness. No matter my profession, I’ll enjoy hobbies and activities that use my spatial abilities. I’m happy doing projects that produce a tangible outcome.
