about me.

Hola! I’m Aimee, a current student at the University of the Pacific (UOP), studying to get my BFA in Studio Art. I plan to double major in Business Administration.

I was born in Colima, Mexico, on 15 December 2004 and raised in Jalisco, Mexico. In school in Mexico, I was outgoing, made friends quickly, and had good grades. In other words, I was an extrovert. My parents decided to come to Sacramento, USA, in 2014-5 because of job opportunities. We moved three times before settling in Rancho Cordova, California, because we could not afford the rent. Adjusting to new environments, anime entertained us while our parents worked. Every time we moved, I switched schools, leaving friends and getting accustomed to new things and people. I became shy and unable to make friends since I didn’t know the language. Drawing became my friend. I got the book “How to Draw,” and I started with anime characters. People always came up to me during recess as I sat alone drawing. They complimented my abilities, and this is how I made some friends.
I went to Cordova High School, where I did International Baccalaureate, which introduced me to Visual Arts, and my art teacher, which motivated me to pursue art as a major. I decided to apply to UOP because it also had the majors I wanted to do. I saw that I could become a better version of myself in UOP. During my undergraduate experience so far, I have learned and completed many different projects exploring art principles and forms. This has allowed me to dive into various aspects of studio art and meet a range of projects, expanding my skill set.
At the University of the Pacific, I am a part of a few groups and organizations. I joined the American Institute of Graphic Arts (AIGA) student group, a Japanese-American club, the Nikkei Student Union (UOP’s NSU), and an archery club.

Although art is a significant part of my life, it’s not my entire personality. I enjoy reading manga or learning Japanese (or new cultures) whenever I have free time. As well as spending time with my dog and family. I also listen to a lot of music (usually Mexican rap). Watching anime is another activity I really enjoy.
