visual perception
Download and install the Hocus app from the corresponding store (iOS or Android). Play and complete some levels to get acquainted with the game, produce an original Hocus Level of your own design, and download and install the Isometric app from the Apple App Store. Reproduce your Hocus level in Isometric and generate an image from within the app, using the provided grid, print photocopies on 3 of your colored paper stock, and cut into diamond-shaped pieces all 3 colored sheets of paper. Using your grid, paste the diamonds on top of it to reproduce your Hocus level, cut out the unused grid portions, mount your Hocus level card, your Isometric render and your paper version in a black Illustration board
elements& principles of design
Define a 4’’ x 4’’ format on blanks sheets of paper. Using only pencils, produce 8 non-representational b&w sketched compositions using the elements of design in accordance with the Principles of Design. Experiment with different graphic treatments in each of your compositions. Try to explore both organic and geometric approaches. Select two sketches for refinement. Define an 8’’ by 8’’ format in your Bristol paper. Reproduce the selected sketches in fine detail using lightly-marked pencil lines. Use Sharpie markers both fine and ultra-fine to ink over the pencil. Erase the underlying pencil lines. Use Liquid Paper to correct possible ink smudging or imperfections. Photocopy both compositions scaled by 75%. Mount on black Illustration board
pattern & texture
Define a 4’’ x 4’’ format on your Bristol Pad. Using only pencils, produce 5 non-representational b&w sketched compositions of different modules. Experiment with different shades of gray in each of your compositions. Try to explore both organic and geometric approaches. Select one sketch for refinement. Define an 8’’ by 8’’ format in your Bristol Pad. Reproduce the selected sketch in fine detail using pencil shading. Cut out at least one sheet of single letters from the type sample sheet. Use your sketch as template to place the letters over them. Correlate density and letter size to the grayscale values of your composition. Scan the module and bring it into photoshop for tile production. Use Adobe Capture to produce an infinite texture based on your finished mosaic. Mount your final compositions on black illustration board according to specs from last project.

the Simpsons abstraction
You will produce an abstract artistic piece that immediately refers, through minimal formal and chromatic
elements, to the television series The Simpsons or even to one or more of its specific characters.
color posterizing and monotone painting
Select a photograph or image to posterize, using the Adobe Capture App, create a vectorized object of the image, export the resulting vector and print it out by placing it on a white letter-sized sheet of paper using any vector manipulation program, and trace the image on to your white canvas. Select a hue for your image and identify its CMYK values, create 4 different colors by modifying saturation and brightness of the selected hue, and reproduce the 4 colors by mixing CMYK acrylic ink.
Use the colors to paint your image.
pixel art with thumb tacks
Select a photograph or image. Using the piskelapp.com website convert your image to a 48 x 48 Pixel Art graphic. Trace in a new layer a simplified version of your graphic, limiting yourself to 8 to 10 colors. Be sure that your full color palette follows a known and identifiable color scheme. Print a version of your 48x48 pixel art as a guideline for your thumb-tack version. Cut a 20 x 20 inch board. Use foam board or thick cardboard. Paint it if needed. Procure at least 2400 thumb tacks. Minimum diameter: 0.31 inches (8mm). Depending on the selected object, you could need acrylic paint. If you do, paint the objects with acrylic
paint according to your pixel art guideline. Identify the diameter of your object, then trace a 48 by 48 matrix on your mounting board. Be sure to leave space for a small gap between each row and column on your matrix. Depending on the selected object, you could need a glue gun. Using your printed guideline, place your objects on the board
